i noticed this issue when taking screenshots, for example i have it configured to save screenshots to desktop but i noticed they never appeared there, but when i open dolphin and go to /user/Desktop they show there, the only workaround i figured to make it work normally is to create symlink to desktop folder, and then in "Desktop and wallpaper > Location" settings i set custom location to that symlink and now it works normally like that, every new entry i add to Desktop folder is shown right away
actually setting desktop location to desktop symling is not working either, it only works at the moment of change or until the reboot it seems

Under Desktop & Wallpaper -> Layout - what do you have selected next to "Layout"? Also, please write out the exact steps you followed STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. 2. 3. Under Desktop & Wallpaper -> Layout i have "Folder View", and under "Location" i have Desktop Folder selected STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open Dolphin and go to /home/user/Desktop folder 2. create random new text file or random new folder inside Dolphin in Desktop folder OBSERVED RESULT New files not showing on Desktop itself, only show up in Dolphin Desktop folder EXPECTED RESULT Files should appear on the Desktop itself when created inside dolphin's Desktop folder SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS (available in the Info Center app, or by running `kinfo` in a terminal window) Operating System: Manjaro Linux KDE Plasma Version: 6.5.3 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.20.0 Qt Version: 6.10.1 Kernel Version: 6.17.10-1-MANJARO (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland
also to add, i just now tested, deleting "plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc" file in ~/.config/ seems to fix it, but i will look into it more to try to preserve my desktop layout since i had it very customized
actually i think i found the culprit, i had "folder view" widget in the corner of desktop screen which i use for viewing some random folder, after removing it it seems to fix described behaviour, however it would be better to be able to keep it as it was before
Thanks for the detail and the troubleshooting. We'll have to be able to reproduce this to fix it. Do you still have the old plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc file that was present when the bug was visible? Are you reliably able to reproduce the bug if you re-add the "folder view" widget to the desktop?
I just tested now, the simplest way to reproduce is the following: 1. delete or backup plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc 2. logout login 3. try creating new folder or text file in Dolphin > Desktop, it will show up immediately on real Desktop 4. add Folder View widget on Desktop itself (not into the panels, when its added to panels there is no issue) 5. logout login 6. repeat step 3, it will not show up on real Desktop 7. remove Folder View widget 8. logout login 9. repeat step 3, it will work again
