I believe the Andromeda Launcher already offers what you want.

Right click your app menu icon and click Show Alternatives
Select Andromeda Launcher

Will that work for you?

Yes it does, but it lacks other functionality: it can't be resized, there is no animations if it's floating and other.

I tried a lot of custom launchers, but all of them lack some sort of functionality. Kickon (https://github.com/jinliu/plasma-applet-kickon) did exactly what I want, but it's devs stopped updating it and right clicking stopped working after a recent KDE update.

Default kickoff menu is perfect and it has all the functionality that I need and I don't have to worry that it's devs will abandon it, but the only thing that it doesn't have is an option to hide the sidebar.

So it would be nice if there was an option like this in default kickoff menu.

Thanks for clarifying your needs. We can consider adding this to Application Launcher.

This is an interesting idea, but I don't think this is something we can consider, sorry. How would the user get to any of the content that's only accessible in the sidebar part? That would require a bunch of UI design to accommodate, and at that point, it's basically a whole 'nother widget with a completely different UX.

If there are 3rd-party widgets that are *aaaalmost* right, I'd recommend getting involved with their development to see if you can help keep them alive and develop them in the direction you'd like to see them go in.

What if instead of hiding side bar there was an option to reduce it's size by hiding the text and keeping just the icons, like "Icons only
compact mode". It doesn't change the idea of kickoff. It's easier to implement. I would like it cos now the sidebar doesn't use half of the dialog and there is more useful space.

Side bar just icons

That seems more reasonable.
