Description Nate 2025-11-07 11:22:39 UTC
SUMMARY
KDE PIM SUITE is a complete set of applications. Intertwined, coherent, working in tandem, database based suite.
Installing metapackage "kde-pim-meta" forcefully installs packages that are not part of KDE PIM SUITE.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Install KDE PIM Metapackage (e.g.: $ pacman -S kde-pim-meta).

OBSERVED RESULT
Packages that are not part of KDE PIM SUITE are installed.

ADDITIONAL INFO:
Whole KDE PIM Suite is installed correctly as expected, but kde-pim-meta imposes on users and pulls down, additional software, polluting the system with duplicates of similar in nature applications. They are not not part of KDE PIM SUITE, but yet, they are imposed on users as hardcoded dependency. Packages that are not part of KDE PIM Suite are forcefully coupled as hardcoded dependencies.

By comparision, if you installed Dragon player ($ pacman -S dragon), it would be completely unprofessional to forcefully install alongside mpv, vlc, parole (GTK) and rythmbox (GTK) at the same time. Rhythmbox, parole, vlc are not hardcoded dependencies of Dragon (player). It would be absurd to do this. Yet it happened for KDE PIM SUITE metapackage.

EXPECTED RESULT
Revert the mistake of enforced dependencies and clean KDE PIM METAPACKAGE from similar packages that are not part of KDE PIM SUITE.
Remove MERKURO applications as hardcoded duplicate applications and as artificial dependencies from the already complete KDE PIM SUITE METAPACKAGE.[1]

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
kde-pim-meta: 25.08-1 (in fact it's applicable to all versions in KDE 6).
Arch Linux
$ kinfo
KDE Plasma Version: 6.5.1 (in fact it's applicable to all versions in KDE 6)
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.19.0 (in fact it's applicable to all versions in KDE 6)
Qt Version: 6.10.0
Graphics Platform: X11

[1] This imposed, manual and artificial coupling of similar apps to KDE PIM SUITE makes KDE look completely unprofessional.👎
They even look unfinished and in beta state. Why duplicate the effort/apps, waste time, resources, break dependencies and impose software on users? Beats me.
