Description leon.halic 2025-11-03 09:58:34 UTC
SUMMARY

If I connect my laptop or computer to an Ethernet connection, and if the Wifi is still turned on, it will keep connecting and disconnecting to an available WiFi connection. It will only try to connect to an already saved WiFi connections, so its not a security risk, just very annoying. As you need to turn off the WiFi completely for this to stop.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have WiFi turned on on the PC and be in range of a previously saved WiFi network
2. Plug-in an Ethernet connection (working one)

OBSERVED RESULT

PC keeps connecting to the available WiFi connection while the Ethernet connection is active

EXPECTED RESULT

If PC detects an active Ethernet connection, it should stop looking for a WiFi connection, even if WiFi is turned on.

Connecting to Wi-Fi, even when a wired ethernet connection is active, is by design. The bug here is that NetworkManager is repeatedly connecting and disconnecting from the saved Wi-Fi network.

Can you get logs from your system after reproducing this bug? You can either paste them into a comment or attach them as a text file. To get logs from NetworkManager for the current boot:

sudo journalctl -b | rg NetworkManager

This might produce a lot of output, if so it's better to attach this as a text file. Thanks!
