Hi,

This is a usability report linked to an interface cohesion enhancement.
Icons in KDE can be icons-text, text-only or icons-only. This is user's choice depending on taste, screen size, habits, etc. But one can't do the same for places or file picker in open/Save dialog.
It really matters for often opens softwares Dolphin or Gwenview because while they both got a very customisable UI that can be set for maximum display, the place panel can't be reduced to show only icons.

Some good visual ideas for icons only panel, can be seen in KDE task-managers and Firefox new vertical tab bar at least.

I don't add details about my KDE install as this problem is common to all past and present versions untile (at least) 6.18

Thanks and regards
Xavier
