Digikam runs on the same system under KDE, Gnome Classic, and Cinnamon experimental with Wayland. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Fedora 42 digikam digikam.x86_64 8.8.0-1.fc42 How reproducible: Installation and/or update of package digikam 8.8 and start digikam in desktop environment Cinnamon (with X11) STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1.sudo dnf install digikam 2.digikam 3. OBSERVED RESULT German: Speicherzugriffsfehler (Speicherabzug geschrieben) Segmentation fault EXPECTED RESULT digiKam starts SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: macOS: (available in the Info Center app, or by running `kinfo` in a terminal window) Linux/KDE Plasma: KDE Plasma Version: KDE Frameworks Version: Qt Version: 6.9.2 Linux Fedora 42 - Cinnamon Xorg ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 8.7 ran smoothly. Even an initial start with 8.8. with a new database and new configurations results in a crash. During the initial start, the wizard begins the setup, and the subsequent start of DigiKam results in a segmentation fault. Unfortunately, downgrading to 8.7 is no longer possible due to the updated dependencies. As described, the crash only occurs in an Xorg environment. It works in an Wayland environment. DigiKam crashes under Gnome Classic (Xorg) and Cinnamon. It works under Plasma, Gnome Classic (Wayland), and Cinnamon Wayland (Experimental). The segmentation fault also occurs with a current AppImage from the digiKam website. I still need to test whether the AppImage works under Wayland. I will provide the result later.
AppImage 8.8 exhibits the same behavior: SegmentationFault under Xorg, error-free startup in Wayland environments
probably a duplicate of bug 511092
The crash has been fixed and has already been confirmed in the mailing list. Please test the updated digiKam AppImage from here: https://files.kde.org/digikam/ Maik
The Segmentation Fault ist fixed in Appimage 8.8.0-20251029T070102-Qt6
Both commits from bug 511092 needed to fix segmentation fault?
