The feature request is motivated by the class of bugs present and in the future on hardware level of thunderbolt syb-system/hubs or external monitors or lower layer of software stack (kernel) beyond the scope of KDE project. One example of such bugs is reported here https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=510988 Please reach out the relevant members of kernel development team for information how to safely restart thunderbolt-subsystem. One script is also attached in https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=510988 , but follow the kernel team advise preferably. My idea is to have the launcher in system settings/ Thunderbolt / 'Restart' button and in either those two options: on system-tray / Status and Notifcation / Thunderbolt restart (new entry) or or system-tray / Status and Notifcation / Display Configuration / Thunerbolt restart Operating System: Debian GNU/Linux 13 KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.6 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.13.0 Qt Version: 6.8.2 Kernel Version: 6.17.0-rc6-toeirei-ec (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland Processors: 12 × 13th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-1355U Memory: 40 GiB of RAM (38.9 GiB usable) Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics Manufacturer: Notebook Product Name: L140AU
We' not exposing workarounds in the UI. If there's a bug it needs fixing
Ok, I am not going to push it anymore. Maybe third-party restart widge/applet will be enough. I just want to say that most frequent question in Technical support call centers to the user is "Have you tried to restart your computer?", so the 'restart' (even in KDE) is treated not just as workaround in most cases. It is good for troubleshooting to know if 'restart' helped. It is information for further investigation. To know if 'restart thunderbolt subsystem' helped could be such information in troubleshooting.
