Description catwalk.molecular237 2025-10-24 13:10:41 UTC
After upgrading to Plasma 6.5 on Arch Linux with Mesa 25.2.5 and a Radeon HD 7850 GPU, the mouse cursor becomes completely pixelated (“kasha”) in a Wayland session.

Plasma version: 6.5.0

KWin version: 6.5.0

Mesa version: 25.2.5-1

GPU: Radeon HD 7850

Session type: Wayland

The cursor is normal under X11, and changing cursor themes in System Settings has no effect. Restarting Plasma or SDDM does not fix it.

This appears to be a regression in KWin Wayland cursor rendering on AMD/Mesa, likely related to hardware cursor composition.

Steps to reproduce:

Upgrade to Plasma 6.5 on Arch Linux with AMD GPU and Mesa 25.2.5.

Log in to a Wayland session via SDDM.

Observe that the cursor is fully pixelated.

Expected behavior:
Cursor should display normally, as it does under X11.

Actual behavior:
Cursor is fully corrupted (“pixelated mess”) and unusable.
