SUMMARY
I am having a infuriating issue with KDE plasma where it just refuses to display at all on one spefic monitor. When I enabline it in settings it comapljns gaps aren't support but then removes litlary every display form the edit display argemnets. If I unplug litlary every other display and only have that one connected KDE plasma still refuses to display to it, other desktops (gamescope, hyprland tty) in the same hardware have no issues with these displays just KDE plasma. I have been trying ti fix it but can't find any realvent logs. This is also on 2 sperate species of hardware running sperate distros gentoo and cachy os. This issue only started recently for both, for gentoo last week, for cachy os today. For the gentoo computer it refuses to display to a Acer 4k 60hz panel and on the cachy os computer it refuses to work on a Samsung odessy neo g7 (this same display works with out problem on gentoo)

Both computers are using and GPU rdna 3 and 2 speficaly and also the cachy os device is a steamdeck oled making it refusing to work on a external screen very very painful and is making it so I can't really get my work done for school on that device (only computer I have acsses to on week days)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Use KDE plasma

OBSERVED RESULT
Refuses to use a display

EXPECTED RESULT
Displays should work

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Up-to-date cachy os

Up-to-date gentoo in ~amd64 repo

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
If I enable only the odessy g7 on the cachy is machine then click apply it goes back then goes back to the built onscreen and the KDE settings app freezes and I have to kill it to use it again

Issue persists threw reboots

Tried running the KDE terminal commands instead if settings exact sane result

What happens when you edit the arrangement?

Screens disappear in the GUI when you click edit arrangment and I didn't try forcing it in the terminal
Comment 7 Harald Sitter 2025-10-23 13:05:46 UTC
Can you reproduce this on a new user as well?

i will try that sometime today or tmr, i missed a good amount of homework because i was trouble shooting this issue and need to get caught up
Comment 9 testc2n14 2025-10-23 13:12:30 UTC
also seeing how this same issue is happening on 3 different distros on 3 diffrent pieces of hardware with 3 diffrent sets of monitors i am pretty much certain the issue can be replicated on a new user
Comment 10 testc2n14 2025-10-24 21:16:10 UTC
Updated to plasma 6.5 and issues priests, made a new user and the issue did not show uo with my 5 minutes of messing about
Comment 11 testc2n14 2025-10-24 21:18:00 UTC
Going to try setting KDE plasma to stick settings if there a way ti do that on my main user
Comment 12 testc2n14 2025-10-24 21:30:56 UTC
OK I swapped to coneplty stock breeze dark, rm ~/.config/plasmashellrc and ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop wall let's rc as a kde f9rum post said that would coneplty reset me ti default and the issue still persists on my user
Comment 13 testc2n14 2025-10-25 01:43:16 UTC
OK so made the new user copied .config and pasted it into my main user overweighting every file needed (I made a backup) then chown everything to my main user and jt works now. So it's something under .config causing the issue. I am willing to upload the folder but it may contain personal info so ehhhhhh
Comment 14 testc2n14 2025-10-25 02:49:04 UTC
surprisingly the only issue after i applied my settings is that the volume up and down buttons no longer work and i have to change volume via the settings app.
Comment 15 testc2n14 2025-10-25 15:02:52 UTC
OK now I have a big problem my non technical friend is having this issue with there only monitor and I am going to have to trouble shooting to explain tk them how to fix it from here
Comment 16 testc2n14 2025-10-25 15:03:28 UTC
Seems like a non stock but common settings or theme is causing this
Comment 17 testc2n14 2025-10-25 15:03:51 UTC
That isn't reset by switching back to breeze
Comment 18 testc2n14 2025-10-25 15:09:49 UTC
If akmeone could up this from grave ti critical that would be nice as this has made my friend computer compelty unusable unless they go into a tty which they don't even know about
Comment 19 testc2n14 2025-10-27 12:43:34 UTC
i am atachgn a google drive link that has a diff of the files under .config and my backup of .config i did not upload it to kde plasm directly as it was too large
