Created attachment 185827 [details] Comparison between Chromium and Firefox on KDE SUMMARY After a recent update, all windows of Chromium (and Chromium-based browsers, like Brave) are tinted light. See attachment "Comparison between Chromium and Firefox on KDE". In KDE, a solid black DIV in Chromium is rendered as (according to KColorChooser) #101010 instead of #000000. As you can also see in that attachment, because I have Wobbly Windows enabled, when I start dragging the window, the color turns normal; but when I drop the window, it becomes tinted light again. Entering the workspace grid/overview also turns the colors normal, until I exit the grid/overview. If I disable Wobbly Windows, then dragging the window no longer makes the colors temporarily normal. This is not happening in GNOME, so I know it's specific to KDE and is not solely caused by my underlying hardware and/or Chromium itself. This happens whether "Color accuracy" is set to "Prefer efficiency" or "Prefer color accuracy." I've also tried forcing Chromium to use the sRGB color profile in its own internal settings, which had no effect (I've since reset the flag that I overrode while troubleshooting that way). I did click try changing my "Color profile" setting from "None" to the other two options semi-recently (for no reason other than experimentation while researching displays), so that setting could be involved here. However, I had changed the setting back to the default "None" before this started happening, and I've since reset many of my KDE settings trying to troubleshoot this, including removing the config file for my display configuration. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Install a Chromium-based web browser 2. Navigate to a webpage with black or dark colors visible OBSERVED RESULT The colors are tinted slightly lighter than they should be. EXPECTED RESULT Black should be rendered as black. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux: 6.17.2-arch1-1 KDE Plasma Version: 6.4.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.19.0 Qt Version: 6.10.0 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION My GPU is an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090. I'm connected to my display with HDMI.
Created attachment 185828 [details] Issue not occurring on GNOME
Also, this does not seem to effect Electron applications, such as Discord or VS Code. I also just checked, and it does not happen in Vivaldi or Microsoft Edge. But it does happen in both Chromium and Brave. (Brave's UI is much closer to upstream Chromium, but I don't know what that would have to do with rendering of colors in the viewport.)
It seems disabling graphics acceleration in Chromium works around the issue. Again, the issue does not occur with graphics acceleration on in GNOME. The issue also doesn't occur if I force Chromium to launch in Xwayland (--ozone-platform=x11), even with graphics acceleration on and apparently working (according to chrome://gpu/).
