bubbles

I have several notification messages/bubbles that stack up until the top of the screen.
Still, the layout can be surely improved :-D
(please see screenshot)

The top part of the image is not cut - this is really to top of the screen (y=0)

Operating System: Fedora Linux 42

KDE Frameworks Version: 6.20.0
Qt Version: 6.9.2

Just clarifying, do you mean that one of the popups has suddenly jumped up a lot and then it's controls are hidden?

yes,
no titlebar, larger offset..

i think it was a kdeconnect message, but i'm not sure about this

The expectation would be, that notifications (independent of kind) are similarly stacked.
Maybe also taking into account, that we have a widget (clock) on the desktop and try to not cover this (just an idea)

and, another - in my opinion - nice feature would be to have a toggle for the sort-order of notifications.
I would prefer the newest ones on the bottom, not at the top of the stack
but... configurable, please :-)

For things to be actionable, we require there be only one thing in each report.
Please open a new feature request for this. The behavior you originally reported looks like a bug with notification stacking, not intentional. Having another feature for the sort order would be a different request. Thanks.

yep. will do
lets keep this strictly to the stacking problem

I tested this on git-master by

1. Downloaded a bunch of things with Firefox until its notification stack was as tall as it could get
2. Got a notification from Nheko (Matrix client)

The Matrix notification didn't appear while the others were on the screen

If we could get confirmation on the app that generated the malformed notification bubble, that would help.

It could also be a problem with the ferdium-messages.
They behave differently (i know, another symptom.. maybe good for another bug report :-)) than other messages:
Typically (configurable) messages will stay for 10sec on screen.

ferdium messages stay put - you need to clear them manually. Even then, a click on the broom-icon of the notification widget won't clear those messages. Only after opening the popup by clicking on the bell-icon in systray and deleting the messages of ferdium they will go away.

In this situation (multiple ferdium messages on screen) i can confirm that a kde-connect message from my phone was displayed as last/topmost message. And disappeared after 10sec (as expected)
Does this help?

Can you reproduce it every single time when that sequence of events happens?
Comment 9 slartibart70 2025-10-21 20:45:47 UTC
Yes, this stacking problem appeared more than once - i only reported it yet because it does not happen that often (typically, i delete the ferdium notification message by clicking on them individually to make them disappear)

I know it's more on the 'cosmetics' side but it's still annoying to see notification windows being cut at the top

Maybe this isn't a problem at all if ferdium messages would disappear after 10secs (as other notifications do) so we would never run into this situation? (or - did i miss some settings?)
I think this problem is really specific to ferdium.
On the positive side: having lots of ferdium messages (more than the number of messages to place on-screen) and clicking/removing them individually reveals 'the other messages' - that would not fit on screen - one by one, until all messages are gone.
