In windoes, down loads are catagorised into today, yesterday, this weak. This month. Etc. we can also extens this behaviour to catagorise different file types or catagory

This already exists. I do not know the exact name of the setting, but I know that if you set a setting called something like "use individual view settings for each folder" you can achieve this behavior. I'll see the exact name when I'm at my computer

To group things in your Download folder by date:

Go to View - Sort By - Created
And then go to View - check the "Show in Groups" checkbox

Then, as mentioned, you can set Dolphin to use individual views for each folder.
Settings - View - Remember display style for each folder
