Description newuser 2025-10-11 01:41:21 UTC
When moving or copying files, once duplicate files are found the user has too choose what to do (overwrite, skip, etc) and information is given if both files seem to be identical or not. Usually when files are identical users what to skip these and care more about files that are different but have the same filename. If the list of duplicates is high and many but not all are identical there is a risk that the user clicks the wrong action and overwrites files that are actually different

This feature request is to please have dolphin allow moving files and skipping duplicates when they are identical files and only care about files that are different. I'm not sure how this could be implemented in the GUI but I think the feature itself would be welcome to all users that have accidentally deleted the wrong files in the past

*to clarify, actually when moving files if they are identical I click on overwrite since I don't want two identical files, and if different I rename one and keep both. But if the number of duplicates is high and almost all are identical, you start clicking on "Overwrite" dozens of times on every pop up and "Skip" when you find a different one, but repetitive tasks lead to errors and it's easy to delete the wrong ones

When I copy multiple files to a folder that already has copies of those files, there's a checkbox on "File Already Exists"
"Apply to All"

So if I check that, and then click Skip, all files that already exist will be skipped. This sounds like what you want, will this work for you?
