Message box: Could not find any coordinates on the clipboard.

SUMMARY
When right clicking on the map to copy the coordinates ("copy coordinates") I want to add to my images below, the copying works, but in a format that is not supported by "paste coordinates" in the bottom menu.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
In — Geolocation Editor
1. Right click on map
2. Click on "Copy Coordinates"
3. Right click on image in the bottom list
4. Click "Paste Coordinates"
5. A message appears: "Could not find any coordinates on the clipboard."

OBSERVED RESULT
What is pasted in the clipboard has the format: 25° 25' 34,4"W, 37° 46' 50,5"N
A message appears: "Could not find any coordinates on the clipboard."

EXPECTED RESULT
I can paste the location I selected on the map. A format that is accepted is the following: geo:37.8085565,-25.4731374
Another workflow would be OK, too: ideally, when right clicking on the map, an item should appear as on the right side pane that says: "Move selected images to this position".

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
macOS: Tahoe 26.0.1

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Digikam is great, thanks a lot for it!

I can't reproduce the problem on Linux or Windows. It's probably a clipboard handling issue in macOS.

Do you know the normal way to set the image coordinates? Drag the images from the image list and drop them onto the map.

Maybe the way the map component copies the geo information to the clipboard is different? Through the map, I got the format I mentioned (a text in the form: " 25° 27' 59,4"W, 37° 48' 26,1"N" without the first and last quote), and on the image list on the bottom, I get a different format (a text in the form: "geo:37.8089935427,-25.4738288741" without the first and last quote). When pasting the second format, it works perfectly, it’s only the first format that doesn’t work. So I can copy paste between images without a problem, I just can’t copy paste from the map to the list of images.

No! I didn’t! It’s great! And it wouldn’t have occurred to me to drag images on the map.

As a suggestion, I’d add some text after the last icon if it’s not too complicated to implement, saying something like "↑↑↑ drag images to tag ↑↑↑". Like that this great feature would get more advertising. I’ll be attaching an image of what I mean (I’m no UX designer =D).

Have a nice week-end!

Regarding the clipboard, not only are the coordinates copied to the clipboard as text, but also in application/gpx format. This clipboard entry would normally be used when pasting the coordinates. The text entry is therefore irrelevant for digiKam. I would have to add debug messages to see what the issue is. As I said, no problems under Linux or Windows.

Gilles, can you confirm the issue on macOS?

Hi Maik,

Not at all. From Icon-view, i select one image with GPS info. I open the map left sidebar with OpenStreetMap. I Right click on map to pop up the context menu and i copy coordinate. I open the Apple Note application and i can paste the GPS info inside.

Although I’m not in the same window exactly (I’m in geolocation editor), I can also copy the information from the map and paste it successfully in Apple Notes or wherever. In the example image attached, I get: 25° 28' 07,9"W, 37° 48' 41,4"N

However, I cannot paste this information in the bottom part of Geolocation editor. I made a small screen recording to show what I mean.

All the best!

It's not reproducible at all here with my macbook pro M1, digiKam 8.8.0 pr-release and macOS Sequoia 15.6.1:

Now it just occurred to me what is going on: there is an app that converts text in the clipboard to unformatted text that must be interfering. I'm so so sorry that it didn't occur to me before: sorry Gilles and Maik for not thinking of it before and making you spend time on this needlessly. I just saw that there were two different formats in the clipboard and thought that was the reason, but didn't think further.

Maik, Gilles, I thank you for your time and present my apologies to you and wish you a wonderful Sunday
