Description fnx32 2025-09-29 12:43:51 UTC
SUMMARY

8 activities, 8 desktops. Autohide panels top, bottom, right, left.

After a random amount of time, all panels are inaccessible in all activities. Initially, by switching to a different activity and back, panels become accessible but only for a time and only for one desktop. Eventually the only way to see panels is by setting visibility to "always visible".

Restarting plasma does not fix this problem.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set up activities and desktops as above.
2. Use for about an hour.
3.

OBSERVED RESULT
Autohide panels fail to unhide.

EXPECTED RESULT
Autohide panels should always unhide.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Has been going on for about 10 months

Does changing the window open/close animation temporarily fix it? If so, this sounds like Bug 507541.
Comment 2 fnx32 2025-09-29 17:23:22 UTC
Will update as soon as problem arises again. Thank you for the suggestion.
Comment 3 fnx32 2025-10-12 21:50:20 UTC
Error just occurred. Changed System Settings/Window Management/Desktop Effects/Window Open/Close Animation several times (Fade -> Glide -> Scale) without reappearance of hidden panels.
Comment 4 fnx32 2025-10-12 22:50:33 UTC
Error happened again.

This time, after resetting Window Open/Close Animation with hidden panels staying inaccessible, I switched to a different Activity.

Hidden panels were working in the new Activity and then in the original Activity after switching back.

This also sounds potentially related to bug 499833, which was supposed to be fixed in Plasma 6.3.4 but was reported still happening or regressed in 6.4.5

Hi!

* Does this still happen with a more modern version of kde?
* Can you reproduce this with a fresh account?
Comment 8 fnx32 2026-03-22 00:25:07 UTC
Yes, still unfortunately happens.

Can you let us know what version of Plasma you have now? Thanks.

Also, please do not include quoted text in your replies, except where necessary. It adds noise to the report. Thanks for understanding.
