SUMMARY In Dolphin, every links to files that have a preview have smaller preview that what they should have : smaller than original files preview. It makes harder to see those content with the same zoom level than non-linked files. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open Dolphin with previews turned on. 2. Open a folder that have a file that has a preview, like a picture. 3. Create a link to this file in the same folder (the name of the link need to be different). 4. Compare the size of the preview of the file and of the link to the file. OBSERVED RESULT Links to a file has his preview really smaller than what it is pointed at, and smaller than the space the preview has to be shown. EXPECTED RESULT The preview should take as much space than the preview on the original file. It makes harder to see what the content his, for no gain (- We already know that something is a link because of the link icon). SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Dolphin Version 25.08.1 Operating System: KDE neon User Edition KDE Plasma Version: 6.4.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.18.0 Qt Version: 6.9.2 Kernel Version: 6.14.0-29-generic (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Files that only show a generic icon are not affected by being a link or not. It only affect files with preview of their content. This affect previews in Dolphin for all three view modes (icons mode, compact mode, details mode) but it doesn't affect (outside Dolphin) previews on the desktop background. I thought I had already reported this bug, but I didn't found the report. What I submitted was some others bugs (bug 500624, bug 498211).
Created attachment 185195 [details] Screenshot of smaller preview size for linked files in Dolphin
This looks like the same issue as bug 499820 which had been fixed in 24.12.3 Note: The screenshot shows Icon View, the bug is seen with a .png file I'm not able to reproduce this on git-master. Previews have the same size icons as the original file, but I am able to reproduce this with Dolphin 25.08.1. The good news is this means it's fixed in the development version of Dolphin, and will be available on your system when Dolphin is updated to 25.08.2. If you still see this bug with Dolphin 25.08.2 or later, feel free to reopen this report. Thanks!
No the issue is absolutely not fixed. You can try with any linked pictures, it is as reduced as before. The fixed bug was not about linked files. Dolphin Version 25.08.3 Système d'exploitation : Fedora Linux 43 Version de KDE Plasma : 6.5.2 Version de KDE Frameworks : 6.19.0 Version de Qt : 6.10.0 Version de noyau : 6.17.7-300.fc43.x86_64 (64-bit) Plate-forme graphique : Wayland
Thanks for the update. I'm sorry this is still happening on your system. I did further testing, and can reproduce the problem with Dolphin 25.08.3. The png being linked had to be large. 64 x 64 - preview of a linked file is the same size as another png of this size - OK 1920 x 1080 wallpaper png - preview is smaller than another png of this size I'm still not able to reproduce this with Dolphin built from git-master This may be the same bug as bug 498211, I'll let the developers make that call.
(In reply to TraceyC from comment #4) > The png being linked had to be large. > > 64 x 64 - preview of a linked file is the same size as another png of this > size - OK > 1920 x 1080 wallpaper png - preview is smaller than another png of this size > > I'm still not able to reproduce this with Dolphin built from git-master Ok > This may be the same bug as bug 498211, I'll let the developers make that call. No, it's not the same bug. Bug 498211 is about symbols put on top of the preview, like the chain indicating that this is a link, or the lock indicating that you don't have the right to open it. It's not about the preview of the content of the file.
Maybe that the issue only happen when fractional scaling is set above 100%. I have mine set to 110%. On my set of pictures, the issue doesn't seem to happen when reducing it to 100% or less, like 75%. After changing fractional scaling, refresh (F5) of the Dolphin view is necessary to know the real result.
