Description Adolfo Rodrigues 2025-09-17 19:38:33 UTC
SUMMARY:

HDR has been a controversial topic:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=499934

https://discuss.kde.org/t/hdr-calibration-tool-6-4/34592

Since there’s no “solution” to a “not a problem,” I’m requesting a way to turn HDR on and off for applications, and Window Rules seems to be the most obvious place to implement this.

HDR ON when the application is running, OFF when it stops. This seems like a reasonable request, similar to how we have the Adaptive Sync property. While not perfect by any stretch, I don’t see any other practical solution.

This way, the 100% Brightness Slider can be set to what seems to be the passthrough value of 203, so it does not affect HDR content in any way, shape, or form.

While I am genuinely trying to understand the reasoning behind HDR handling as it currently stands, it does not help users like myself who want HDR content to be presented on the display unaltered, while also avoiding excessive brightness in other situations.

Thank you.

Changing to wishlist, since this is a feature request, and not a bug
Sending to the kwin project, that handles displays and HDR
