Description php4fan 2025-09-11 17:45:05 UTC
I mentioned this in https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=509388 but it deserves its own report, as it's not directly related.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. On a laptop, begin with a configuration where you have one external monitor set up as the only enabled display, while the laptop's built-in one is disabled
2. Open Display Configuration
3. In the dropdown where the available displays are listed, select the Built-in one
4. Check the "Enabled" checkbox
5. Apply the changes

OBSERVED RESULT
At no point, not even after applying the setting changes, and not even after you click the "Keep" button in the popup, does the "Primary" selector show up. There is NO WAY of changing (or even checking) which display is the primary one, unless you close and reopen the Display Settings.

EXPECTED RESULT
The "Primary" selector should show up as soon as you check the Enabled checkbox. As soon as you have two screens that you can configure (and both are shown in the preview at the top), you should be able to select which one you want as the primary one, before finally applying the changes. You shouldn't have to apply the changes before you can change that, and certainly you shouldn't have to close and reopen the display settings after having applied the changes.

I've just found out that if you check "Enabled", then uncheck it, then check it again, then the Primary radio button appears. So that's the workaround.

I can't reproduce this issue with the steps provided. It may have already been fixed for Plasma 6.5. Could you take a screen recording that shows the Display Configuration page in System Settings as you make these changes? Thanks!
