SUMMARY I am using KDE installed from synaptic on Ubuntu 24.04. It is an Asus Proart x670e mb. I have the monitor’s hdmi cable plugged into the motherboard. There is an nvidia card installed in the system as well which I use for computing. I set the Asus BIOS to give the Radeon IGFX 2GB ram. On login it is using a quarter of it as reported by nvtop, and nothing is happening on the nvidia card - no apps are even loaded on it, everything is on the Radeon IGFX. The KDE crash occurs after I login to KDE as a user. The crash usually occurs when I move the mouse cursor over the menu at the bottom or over an app (any app) button or control. Sometimes the screen goes black for 10-15 seconds, then comes back. After about the third blackout, it doesn't come back and I have to cycle the power. Other times it will just lock as the mouse goes over the menu or an app (any app) button or control The crash occurs similarly on KDE (x11) as on KDE (Wayland) STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Boot the machine and login to KDE as user. 2. Move the mouse cursor repeatedly over the menu bar at the bottom or an app button or control. OBSERVED RESULT The screen will go black, then come back 10-15 seconds later. In this mode after about the third time it will just stay black and I will have to cycle the power. Another mode is that it just locks up and the power has to be cycled. EXPECTED RESULT Normal operation without locking.
