Created attachment 184590 [details] A video showing the unstable text rendering wobblying SUMMARY The text rendering is occasionally unstable and has weird wobble (see video). This might be a problem in some lower level component, but since I don't know which I'll report it here first. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Not sure how to trigger it, but it happens eventually OBSERVED RESULT See video. This wobble happens without user interaction, even if the mouse stays still. EXPECTED RESULT The rendering remains stable and doesn't occasionally wobble. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: macOS: (available in the Info Center app, or by running `kinfo` in a terminal window) Linux/KDE Plasma: postmarketOS v25.06 based on Alpine KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.6 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.13.0 Qt Version: 6.8.3 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Yeah that is weird. Are you using a scaled display? If yes, can you try with a scale factor of 100
I don't see how we could create that effect by accident. Unfortunately I don't know where to report that best. You are on postmarketOS, are there any later versions with more up to date kernel or Qt?
This effect isn't new, so it has been going on for a while, I just never thought to report it. Many other applications never wobble like this, for example, the web browser never does even when using the native Wayland mode. One other app where I've seen something similar is Dolphin. I usually use 150% or 125% display scaling and always a Wayland session. I'm actually not sure it happens at 100% scaling or not. I don't know how to trigger it timely, it just randomly happens at some point. It's hard to know when I would know whether a change was mere luck or actually prevents it. I rarely use 100% scale since my screen is too far away.
Can confirm now this definitely happens to Dolphin as well, including this sort of diagonal shear line. So it's probably not a kate problem. I guess that means it could be a Qt issue.
I think if it happens in Dolphin, too, you need to report that to upstream Qt.
