I am having a similar problem on Ubuntu 25.10, gnome.
App version 25.08.1

Opening a conversation opens it in the right pane, and I don't see a way to close it. Opening another conversation results in the conversation/contact selection pane being closed without an obvious way to get it back. Sometimes I can use the "back" shortcut on my mouse to get it back, sometimes not. Sometimes it closes all other chats, sometimes not.

As a completely unrelated note, I made the mistake of updating to Ubuntu 25.10 a couple of weeks ago. Turns out, they completely removed support for x11, which I needed for my mouse/solaar to work properly. The only workaround seems to be the gnome-solaar-wayland plugin to forward button-inputs to wayland, but it doesn't exist for kde... 😢
