Description tony 2025-08-24 09:51:28 UTC
SUMMARY
Occasionally in dual pane mode selecting an item in one pane to delete, actually deletes from the other pane, occasionally an error pops up at the top the other pane indicating nothing was selected - exit edit mode.
This has caused my home dir to be deleted, fortunatley timeshift was running

I can confrim this issue and add steps to reproduce this behavior:

SUMMARY
Having a split view open, than opening a new tab you can't perform right mouse actions in the previous tab.
Selecting a file/folder in one of the sides of the split view and e.g. pressing "del" performs delete in the other side.

Entering a folder in the split view seems to fix it until a new tab is opened again.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open dolphin and split the view
2. open a new tab and go back to the first tab with the split view
3. right click on anything or e.g. delete a file/folder via "del" button on your keyboard.

OBSERVED RESULT
Nothing happens when clicking the right button on my mouse.
E.g. deleting a file on one side of the split view deletes something else on the other side of the view.

EXPECTED RESULT
Well perform normal RMB actions and don't delete random stuff I guess :)

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: openSuse Tumbleweed

KDE Frameworks Version: 6.18
Qt Version: 6.9.2

Additionally:
while it's stuck in this state -> when I try to open a location from the sidebar (looking at the split view) it is not opening in the active/last clicked view side.

It started happening to me I think two or three months ago., on a Linux Fedora 42 new install.
I use KDE and wayland.
I update everything every day.
It still happens on Dolphin 25.08.2 (current latest version on Fedora 42)

To reproduce it consistantly:
> close Dolphin
> open Dolphin
> in the left vertical bar, named "Places", click on any entry.

Result:
One pane of the two (split view) correctly goes to the correct directory but if I click again it does the same on the other pane.
Meaning: it alternates between panes every time I click on an entry in "Places".
This happens if I click always the same entry but it also happens if I click on a different entry.
It does not do that (or it stops doing that) if I switch to another application with <alt><tab> and then go back to Dolphin.

Additional information:
It always starts activating the pane on the right side, even if I use the pane on the left side and then close Dolphin.
Meaning: it's not because it remembers that I was using the pane on the right side.

Well it seems to be connected.

Only way for me to unstuck this state is to enter any folder in the split view (until is switch tabs again)

Indeed, this is a duplicate of:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=503576
which is older than this report.
