SUMMARY
I remove the tick in the checkbox for the aforementioned option in the menu under Display & Screen (?). Then I click apply and confirm the upcoming pop up window. When I stay on the same page (or even close it), the changed option is not stored permanently. The display keeps getting dimmed after a certain time. After restarting the PC the option is always ticked as if I did not turn it off.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open settings
2. Navigate to Display & Screen
3. Remove the tick on the mentioned option
4. Stay in the window (or close?)

OBSERVED RESULT
See the display getting dimmed after a few seconds (like 30 or 60 seconds)

EXPECTED RESULT
The display does not get dimmed anymore, because I turned it off.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Comment 1 TraceyC 2025-08-22 21:05:12 UTC
I wasn't able to reproduce this on CachyOS with Plasma 6.4.4. Does this happen with a brand new user account?
Comment 2 ein.anagram357 2025-08-23 03:14:55 UTC
Yes, I just installed CachyOS on a completely new system. Here is a shortened output of hwinfo:

cpu:
                       AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 8-Core Processor
monitor:
                       BenQ XL2430T
graphics card:
ATI Navi 48 [RX 9070/9070 XT]
                       ATI Granite Ridge [Radeon Graphics]

The monitor gets dimmed by the ticked option. When I get it done to turn it off, the monitor does not get dimmed.

If you need more info about it, tell me, how I may help you.

Maybe there is another option or adjustment I can make to test, if I can stop the monitor from getting dimmed.

---
The dimming even effects the monitor if CachyOS dims it and I am using another input channel. This never happened before I used the OS with the monitor.
Comment 3 ein.anagram357 2025-08-23 10:12:56 UTC
I found another option in the settings which might have caused dimming the display. I turned it off now, but it is still strange that this option also interferes with the monitor while another input is active.

And the tick of the option "Control hardware brightness with DDC/CI" seems to work now too. But when I first tried to turn it off, it always was reset automatically. Maybe it only happens when the system is completely fresh and does not have (m)any programs installed, or it is a flaw of the OS and not KDE.
Comment 4 Justin Zobel 2025-08-27 06:17:11 UTC
I'm on Plasma 6.4.4, and I can't see the tick box returning after navigating away from and back to the page or closing and reopening Settings.

The dimming is likely just power-saving settings kicking in after inactivity.
Comment 5 Nate Graham 2025-08-27 15:54:53 UTC
Yeah, probably. If you never want any dimming, look in System Settings > Power Management and change "Dim Automatically" to "Never" for all three power modes.

If you do that, does it stop automatically dimming the screen?
