Desktop configuration

Dragging a file or directory to the desktop no longer opens the Copy-Link-Move popup menu.

My desktop configuration hasn't changed; it's still the same as shown in the attached image. I've already tried with a new user I created specifically for this purpose, with the same result.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Drag a file or a directory to desktop

EXPECTED RESULT
1. A popup menu appears showing the possible actions: Copy, Move, Link

OBSERVED RESULT
1. Nothing happened

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux: 6.15.9
KDE Plasma Version: 6.4.4
Qt Version: 6.9.1

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
If instead of dragging the file or folder to the desktop I drag it to the $HOME/Desktop folder, the Copy-Link-Move popup menu appears as usual.

CLARIFICATIONS:
The popup menu appears correctly if, with the computer just starting up, I drag a folder or file to the desktop from the same hard drive as my home directory (and therefore the Desktop directory).
If I try to drag a folder or file to the desktop from another hard drive, the popup does NOT appear. And from that point on, it no longer appears even if I drag a file or folder from the hard drive as my home directory.
It's as if the function crashes immediately after the first error.

Is the issue only seen when dragging to the desktop? What about if you drag something to Dolphin?

And where are you dragging things *from* when the issue happens? Dolphin?

Yes, the popup doesn't appear unless I drag something from Dolphin to the desktop.

Summary:
- Freshly rebooted computer
- I drag something from a folder on the desktop to the desktop. The popup works.
- I drag something from my HOME directory (which is on the first HD) into Dolphin to the desktop. The popup works.
- I drag something from a directory on the second HD to the desktop. The popup does NOT appear.
- I drag something from my HOME directory to the desktop again. The popup does NOT appear again.
- After that, if I drag anything from anywhere, even the desktop itself, the popup no longer appears.
- If I drag something from anywhere to the $HOME/Desktop directory or any other directory displayed in Dolphin, the popup works perfectly.

I hope I have been exhaustive.

Thanks!

You have KDE Frameworks 6.16 installed, right? Can you upgrade to 6.17 (released a few days ago), reboot, and see if that helps?

OK, upgrading to version 6.17 seems to have fixed the issue. The status of this bug can be changed to "Resolved".
Thank you for your kind cooperation.

Excellent, I had a feeling it would. There was a very relevant drag-and-drop fix in there.
