SUMMARY The keyboard's "mute/unmute" toggle key doesn't always correctly toggle the muted/unmuted status There are two ways to reproduce, (B) seems to be systematic, (A) is not. It recently started happening to me pretty often, and just now I was testing and reproducing consistently, in both the ways described below. Then, as I came here to report the bug and was testing again, (A) started behaving as expected. As I kept trying, (A) reproduced again and then again not. Meanwhile (B) seems to always systematically reproduce. STEPS TO REPRODUCE (A) 0. Start with the audio unmuted 1. press the Mute/unmute key on the keyboard to mute the audio -> audio gets muted as expected 2. Press either the volume-up or the volume-down key on the keyboard. This has the effect of unmuting. 3. Press the mute/unmute key on the keyboard EXPECTED RESULT This should mute again OBSERVED RESULT You hear the system sound that is usually heard when unmuting or changing the volume, and the audio stays unmuted STEPS TO REPRODUCE (B) 0. Start with the audio unmuted. 1. Mute using the mouse and the tray-icon widget 2. Press the mute/unmute key EXPECTED BEHAVIOR: should unmute OBSERVED BEHAVIOR: remains muted; next key press will unmute Note: the following does NOT reproduce even when (B) does: (i) unmute using the mouse and the widget, (ii) press the mute/unmute key. This always works as expected, muting the audio. Note: you might think that the toggle key remembers its own muted/unmuted status, regardless of what the real status (I'm not saying the hardware literally does it, I mean logically somewhere in the software), and isn't aware of what happens to the audio when it gets muted/unmuted by other means other than the key itself, and therefore it gets "out of sync" and sometimes seems to work and sometimes doesn't depending on whether it's in sync or not, but that is NOT the case. The observed behavior is not compatible with that explanation (unless it _sometimes_ gets the information about the actual status changing from elsewhere but sometimes fails to do so). Thank you for the bug report! However Plasma 6.3.6 no longer receives updates or maintenance from KDE; active versions are 6.4 or newer. Please upgrade to an active version as soon as your distribution makes it available to you. Plasma is a fast-moving project, and bugs in one version are often fixed in the next one. If you need help with Plasma 6.3.6, please contact your distribution, who bears the responsibility of providing help for older releases that are no longer receiving updates from KDE. If you can reproduce the issue after upgrading to an active version, feel free to re-open this bug report.
