SUMMARY When pasting using Paste At Cursor, it pastes the item in a new layer. No provision to paste on active layer it seems. Based on my use of KRITA, when pasting using paste at cursor, it would seem to make sense that pasting in the active layer would be the first normal choice. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Select something 2. Go to Edit: Paste at Cursor 3. OBSERVED RESULT Observe that a new layer was created and the pasted item placed on it. EXPECTED RESULT I would expect it to be on the active layer unless a specific setting was set to create a new layer. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: Win10 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION You will have to decide if this is a bug or a wishlist. I see it as a bug, as this does not seem to be what the default result should be.
Thanks for the report/suggestion, Steve. I'm going to consider this a feature request or wishlist item over being a bug, mainly because the default pasting behavior in Krita is to paste into a new layer. As such, the difference between "paste" and "paste at cursor" is just the position of the pasted object on the canvas, I think. Having said that, some ability to configure this to the user's preference may make sense. By the way, are you familiar with "Paste into Active Layer", which functions like a regular paste action, but drops the content into the currently selected/active layer instead of creating the new layer. It doesn't paste based on the location of the cursor, but it does automatically switch to the Transform Tool, allowing you to easily position the content wherever you want before committing.

Hi Emmet, yes, the past to current layer is what I have ended up using mostly. I was working on something that I wanted to copy and then paste a bunch of times around the canvas and it would have been much quicker to paste to the cursor. To do it now, you end up with a whole bunch of new layers with just that one pasted graphic on it. I think calling it a feature request is fair however as one can do what they need to with the current tools, just not as quickly maybe. Love Krita BTW. Great program with lots of great features and capabilities.
