In digikam version 8.7.0, the portrait MP4 videos from my phones (Google Pixel 6 and Samsung S20) are shown correctly in portrait mode under thumbnails and under preview.

When you open them via presentation mode, they are rotated incorrectly in certain situations.
ok -        direct access via black arrow works (show full screen mode), 
not ok - but the forward and backward order doesn't work.

Which Windows version are you using exactly, Qt5 or Qt6?

Okay, I can reproduce it. The first portrait video is aligned correctly in the slideshow, but the next one is incorrect. I'll take a look.
