This is a package issue with your distribution; the language packs are missing from your installation; you may just need to install them.

Tested here with our Appimage and the Windows version; all languages are available.

Hi Maik,
I installed digiKam on freshly installed (german) ubuntu - Using Application Manager.
I manually installed kde-language-pack-de.

Any hint which language packs are missing and how to install?
Thanks!

Your installation is likely using Ubuntu's Snap package. Snap uses a sandbox, and the list of issues with this digiKam package is endless. Use our AppImage if you want to use all of digiKam's features.
I don't know Ubuntu, but the package should have something with digikam-de in its name.
Here on OpenSUSE, it would be the digikam-lang package.
