Description Mª Jesús M. G. 2025-07-27 23:59:58 UTC
For several months now (I switched back to Plasma a little less than a year ago, I don't know how long it's been going on) the windows open in the centre of the screen.

I've been suffering from this bug since I came back (Plasma 6) and I thought that something so silly would surely be fixed in a short time and that it wasn't worth bothering the developers, but I see that it persists. You open any program, and even though you have others on one half of the screen and empty space on the other, Plasma puts it all over the middle, blocking everything, getting in the way and interrupting the workflow. I seem to remember that Plasma 5 respected the user and kindly placed new windows where there was the most free space, getting in the way as little as possible.

Is this a bug or a ‘feature’, and if so, how can I revert to the old behaviour?

OK, forget this report and delete it (I can't seem to do it). After consulting an AI (I should have done it before writing the report. Sorry, and I hope I'll get it next time), I see that it's a new "feature" that has been imposed by default: but as usual, and that's why KDE is the best desktop for Linux, KDE preferences give us the option to oppose those who thought annoying was a good idea and, in the window management options, we can change such intrusive behaviour.

My apologies, and if any administrator would kindly delete this report, less noise will be made at BKO.
