Created attachment 183573 [details] Screenshot showing the behavior. Notice how there's one suggestion at the bottom of the faces for a different person. SUMMARY Unconfirmed face suggestions sometimes appear under the wrong person in the People panel. The affected person shows a pending suggestion count (e.g., (1)), but no face appears at the top of their list. Instead, the misattributed face appears at the bottom, mixed with confirmed ones, and it actually belongs to someone else. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Run face detection on new images. Wait for digiKam to assign face suggestions to known people. 2. In the People panel, observe that one person shows a number of unconfirmed faces (e.g., "Anna (1)"). 3. Click on that person to review the suggestion. Notice that no new suggestion appears at the top, only previously confirmed faces. 4. Scroll down to the very bottom of the confirmed list. One face appears as a suggestion, and it may belong to someone else entirely. OBSERVED RESULT When selecting a person in the People panel who has a number of pending face suggestions (e.g., "Anna (1)"), no suggestion appears at the top of the list. However, if you scroll down to the bottom of the confirmed faces, an unconfirmed face suggestion appears, but it belongs to a different person. EXPECTED RESULT Well, all unconfirmed face suggestions should appear at the top of the list when selecting a person in the People panel. Additionally, suggestions should only appear under the correct person, they should never be misattributed to someone else, regardless of how they are displayed or sorted. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: Windows 10 22H2 Digikam 8.8.0 Build 20/7/2025 13:01 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION I don't think this is anything new, I've seen this behavior every now and then for several months now, likely more than a year. But it rarely happens. I've seen it happen 4 or 5 times at most.
I don't see any bug here; whether confirmed faces are displayed at the top or bottom depends on the sort order of the grouped entries in the View menu. It's still possible for a face to be incorrectly identified during face recognition, although it's become very rare. Simply assign the correct name to the person. Maik
Hi Maik, thanks for your reply. I understand that incorrect suggestions can still happen occasionally, that's not the main issue here. Let's say I have two persons in Digikam (person A and person B). I run the face recognition, and in the panel I see (1 new) suggestion for person A. I click on person A but I don't see any suggestions. However, if I scroll to the bottom of the faces for person A I see a suggestion. But that suggestion is for Person B, complete with the header and everything (regardless if the actual face suggested is right or wrong). However, in the lateral panel there is no indicator of new suggested faces for person B. Basically face suggestions for one person (regardless if correct or not) appear suggested under another person occasionally. I hope that helps.
Hi Marc, Is it possible that the names of people with this problem are duplicated in your people hierarchy? Maik
Mmmm, I don't think so, it happened to me with 4 or 5 different people and I don't think any of them were duplicates.
Are there always several people in the image for the faces in question? Maik
Yes, there are already 5 tagged people in that same picture. I haven't rejected that suggestion yet, so if you want me to check the database or anything else, let me know.
