SUMMARY
When going to the Captions pane, the Captions textbox presents garbage binary data while the caption should be empty. I tried looking at the same picture in the old Windows Live Photo Gallery application and Windows Properties window and both have nothing of the sort.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Index the picture in digiKam
2. Go to the Captions tab

OBSERVED RESULT
Bunch of garbage

EXPECTED RESULT
Empty textbox

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

After some more digging in multiple EXIF tools, it looks like my files effectively got corrupted at some point and is not a problem with the software.
