SUMMARY
KDE Plasma Volume OSD Not Appearing

This bug refers to the failure of the KDE Plasma volume on-screen display (OSD) to appear when the user presses the volume keys on the keyboard.

Typically, when a volume key (up, down, or mute) on the keyboard is pressed, a small visual indicator appears on the screen to indicate the current volume level or mute status. In this bug, the visual indicator fails to appear, although the volume function itself (volume up/down/mute) remains functional.

Key characteristics of this bug:

The volume function works, but there is no visual feedback. You can hear the volume change, but there is no pop-up on the screen.

Occurs when using keyboard keys. This issue specifically occurs when adjusting the volume using the physical keys on the keyboard, rather than through the volume controls in the Plasma panel.

It is likely related to system configuration. This bug can be affected by the Plasma version, display system (Wayland/X11), graphics driver, or even theme conflicts.

This bug disrupts the user experience by removing the visual feedback essential for instantly knowing volume status. This is an issue that needs to be addressed to ensure consistency and usability of the KDE Plasma interface.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Turn on the system
2. Log in
3. Click volume key in keyboard
4. check the osd pop up, if no visual feedback or osd pop up when click volume key this is the bug

OBSERVED RESULT
No OSD pop up or visual feedback when click volume key in keyboard

EXPECTED RESULT
The appearance of OSD pop up or visual feedback when user click the volume key in keyboard

I'm not able to reproduce this with git-master or Plasma 6.4.3 on Solus.
I don't have a system with Neon installed, I'll leave this open so someone with that running can try to reproduce.

Hello, I've been unable to reproduce this under the same system as you (neon, KDE plasma 6.4.3...) unfortunately :(

Do you have anything installed that is interfering perhaps?

Setting status, since we're waiting on an answer
Comment 4 Carlos De Maine 2025-07-25 05:39:44 UTC
cannot reproduce this on a fully up to date KDE neon user vm. do other osd elements such as screen brightness or virtual keyboard display. have you changed your default theme by chance??

Something else that's possible, have you enabled "OSD Popup for status change" in System Settings > General Behaviour?
