SUMMARY


STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. perform upgrade to an well running existing Neon system to the current version
2. start kdenlive
3. kdenlive always crashes at startup and seems to send an automatic crash report

kdenlive-25.04.3-x86_64.appimage works

I see the same problem on KDE Neon with all updates. 

Error message when starting from terminal:
"QPaintDevice: Cannot destroy paint device that is being painted"

According to https://discuss.kde.org/t/kdenlive-crashes/35357 this crash is due to a broken frei0r-plugins package in KDE Neon.

I confirm with Neon and Plasma 6.4.3.
The flatpak version runs ok, but the native one just crash after the splash screen.

Reassigning the bug to KDE Neon

We received many reports of Kdenlive crashing on startup on KDE Neon. From my understanding, this is caused by an OpenCV update that causes crashes in Frei0r or MLT. Both packages should be rebuilt when OpenCV is updated. Is it possible to update the Frei0r and MLT packages in KDE Neon ?

apologies, this has been on my todo list for quite a while, unfortunately the list is very long ;)  

the discuss.kde.org link that Maxi referenced gives the answer.  frei0r-plugins needed rebuilding against neon's libopencv, so i took the opportunity to backport a much more modern 2.3.3 version from plucky, rebuilt mlt as well.

tested to work on all editions.  will be available after the next snapshots are released
