STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. right-click on desktop and choose "Add or manager widgets...": laggy animation occurs after this step
2. click on the button used to exit the edit mode: again laggy animation, and the screen flickers once
3.

I see the flicker you're talking about on Plasma 6.4.3, as well as on git-master
Notably, I don't see it with a single laptop display on git-master, I see it if I attach an external monitor and have both displays enabled.

this is probably due to instantiating the widget explorer and the delegates while playing the animation
