SUMMARY When I turn on my laptop and close the lid before logging in and waiting for plasma to start, it goes to sleep immediately. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Connect the laptop to a USB-C Dock (I used one from HP, but had the same issue with one from i-tec) 2. Open the lid and press the power button to turn on the laptop 3. Close the lid 4. Log in with SDDM (Note: The same also happens when closing the lid too early after login, before the shell is actually started) OBSERVED RESULT Laptop goes to sleep right after logging in EXPECTED RESULT Laptop doesn't go to sleep as long as external displays are connected when it is docked and the lid is closed SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Fedora 42 KDE KDE Plasma Version: 6.4.2 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.15.0 Qt Version: 6.9.1 Graphics Platform: Wayland Kernel: 6.15.4-200.fc42.x86_64 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Laptop Model: TUXEDO Sirius 16 Gen2 Docking Station: HP USB-C Dock G5 There are also some similar reports on SDDM's Github, that seems to be pretty inactive, though. https://github.com/sddm/sddm/issues/1600
So, it goes to sleep after you authenticate and log in, and Plasma takes over? (when the lid is down, and other displays are connected)
Exactly. I put in my password, press enter, get a black screen for a second or two and then, the desktop just flickers up for a fraction of a second before the laptop goes to sleep. Then, when I open the lid, it wakes up, and when I close it a few seconds later, it says awake. After some more testing, I also notices, that this only happens when I have just the docking station connected via USB-C for power. While the barrel power adapter is connected in addition to the dock, the laptop stays awake after logging in. The charging led never turns of in the process though... I did notice that there are performance and stability issues when I run heavier workloads (especially when the dGPU is used) with just the dock (and no barrel charger), but when that happens, the power led also turns off occasionally, so I don't thing it's getting insufficient power while starting Plasma. Is there maybe some way to get any useful logs that could tell us what exactly happens? I did check dmesg, but didn't find anything directly related to power myself. Should I maybe reproduce the issue and attach the dmesg output (or anything else) after a fresh boot?

If Plasma's power management service is responsible for it, you can enable verbose output by following these instructions: https://invent.kde.org/plasma/powerdevil/-/blob/master/README.md#troubleshooting--reporting-bugs
