Description ulterno 2025-07-06 20:53:19 UTC
SUMMARY
Having both the Volume Control icon and the KMix icon in the system tray will confuse the user as both use the same icon. I tried other icon themes, but seems like it is using the same icon by name.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add a System Tray to a Panel
2. In System Tray Settings -> Entries tab -> check the "Always show all entries" checkbox
3. Look for the volume control icon in the corresponding System Tray

OBSERVED RESULT
1. Both, Volume Control and KMix have the same icon.
2. The Tooltip on hover for KMix gives an impression of it being the Volume Control applet
3. Left click does nothing, making the user feel like the Volume Control widget is giving some problems (specially if they don't know they have KMix)

EXPECTED RESULT
1. Different icon for KMix
2. It would be good if Left Click did something

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
OS: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.15.0
Qt Version: 6.9.1
Graphics Platform: Wayland

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Fluff:
I didn't know about KMix before and used to use pavucontrol because old EOS didn't give it by default.
Got it when I installed "plasma" on a new system.
Nice to have it. Seems much more convenient and elegant.
