SUMMARY When there are files in trash, the various indicators in Dolphin, Desktop, etc. often show different states from each other, sometimes within the same context, i.e. the Dolphin places icon for trash may appear filled but the Empty Trash option is disabled, and the opposite may happen when trash is already empty. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Delete file (move to trash) 2. Log out 3. Log back in 4. Observe state 5. Delete one more file 6. Observe again OBSERVED RESULT First observation is the icons and menus don't correctly reflect trash state or do so inconsistently. Second observation stuff syncs up mostly correctly EXPECTED RESULT Always in sync SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux: Arch KDE Plasma Version: 6.4.0 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.15.0 Qt Version: 6.9.1
I can't reproduce this issue. Can you reproduce it at all in a new clean user account on the same machine, with no customization?
Ok I can't seem to reproduce it on a new account or even my regular account anymore, but the trash icon state is just so inconsistent in general, or so i remember at least.
I'm afraid "just so inconsistent in general" isn't actionable enough for a bug report. Can you try to debug a bit to see if you can figure out what's causing it? A possible cause it running out of inotify watches. If you don't have kde-inotify-survey installed, installing that and rebooting would be a good idea. That way you'll get a notification telling you when this has happened, which could indicate some correlation with when the problem is occurring.

OK installed said package and I got no such notifications so far, but today I booted up to find the trash icon on the desktop indicating a full trash only to open it and find it empty, it even prompts me to empty trash when I right click it. The trash item in the Dolphin places panel shows up filled for a split second when you open dolphin but goes back to normal. I don't remember having anything in trash.
Ok the one in the dolphin places panel has the "empty trash" option enabled even if its icon reverts to the empty variant.
May all of this be because of files deleted on a now-unmounted partition?
That's an oddly specific thing to muse about potentially being related. :D Did you do something like that? If so, can you supply details about what exactly it was that you did? And also the partition's filesystem.
I usually fiddle a lot with my partitions, they're all NTFS minus the EXT4 root/home. I don't really remember deleting anything off them but I mounted them all on and relogged in and the issue still persists, I checked each partitions trash directory and they're all empty. The weird state goes away once you choose to empty the already seemingly empty trash.
Can you narrow down the circumstances under which it happens? e.g.: 1. move something on your EXT4 partition to the trash and see if it happens 2. move something on each of your NTFS partitions to the trash and see if it happens for each one β¦and so on. See if you can find a pattern.
