Description shy.bath6018 2025-06-17 20:56:53 UTC
SUMMARY

Random glitches appear on screen. Vertical and horizontal artifacts appear on the desktop (not above application windows) in random places.

My desktop consists of three 4K monitors running at 60Hz connected via DisplayPort to an NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000 (8GB VRAM).

The glitches are impossible to screenshot so I recorded this video:

https://vimeo.com/1094161150

This has been happening since I first installed Linux on this system months ago, and after several Plasma updates the issue persists so I'm filing this bug report. This is my primary workstation and I'm running Gnome on Wayland (without a problem) until this gets resolved.

Artifacts do appear in Plasma X11, but they're different. Random rectangles will appear on screen or inside Konsole (for example), but it's not as bad as Plasma Wayland. However, due to the poor performance on X11 (application windows are really slow to resize and minimize/maximize), I cannot use Plasma X11 productively either.

I have not experienced any strange artifacts/glitches in Gnome 48 Wayland nor Hyprland 0.49.0.

I have not experienced this issue with Plasma Wayland on my CachyOS laptops with Intel integrated graphics.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Login to Plasma Wayland
2. Open System Settings
3.

OBSERVED RESULT

Glitches appear on screen

EXPECTED RESULT

No glitches

Could this be a duplicate of #503458?

I also have video glitches, on both an older (9 years?) Dell desktop and a Dell Latitude 5590 laptop. I believe both use an integrated Intel video system; the laptop, which I'm using now: Intel Corporation UHD Graphics 620 (rev 07)

Both machines, I've only seen it on Plasma on Wayland; it does not occur on Plasma/X11, or on Gnome/Wayland.

I don't see it a lot for most programs, but I can absolutely guarantee it to happen in KPatience/Freecell (and Klondike) after the third or fourth move. It tends to get worse as the game continues. Forcing the window to redraw by resizing it clears out the glitches temporarily, until the third or fourth next move.

It's not just a KPat issue, but that's where I can consistently demonstrate it, and the only place I can think of at the moment that I can definitely see it.

Operating System: Debian GNU/Linux 13
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.13.0
Qt Version: 6.8.2
Kernel Version: 6.12.32-amd64 (64-bit)

Please
1. confirm whether or not this still happens for you on latest Plasma (6.4)
2. upload the video somewhere else, I can't view that
3. attach the output of drm_info and kscreen-doctor -o

QPainter did have some glitches in KPat at some point, but it was fixed. You might just be on an older Qt version with the problem.
