Description Eric 2025-06-14 17:51:41 UTC
SUMMARY
In https://docs.kdenlive.org/en/getting_started/quickstart.html#quickstart in the "timeline" section, paragraph 4, the instructions are wrong or missing a step

Current text:
"move the timeline cursor to the desired position (i.e. the position where you want to cut the video), then drag the left border of the clip when the resize marker appears."

Issue:
When following the instructions step-by-step, the timeline is still attached to the project, not the clip. The app is not working as described in the instructions.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Follow the instructions in the Quickstart Guide: https://docs.kdenlive.org/en/getting_started/quickstart.html
2. Add Napoli.avi + Spoon.avi as instructed
3. Add the Billiard.avi clip to track V1

OBSERVED RESULT

* Resize indicator does not appear as shown in the instructions
* Timeline cursor is still attached to the project and does not function as described

EXPECTED RESULT

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Thank you for reporting. I think it’s not proper described. I think it should written as:

"move the timeline cursor to the desired position (i.e. the position where you want to cut the video),

then move the mouse over the left border of Billard.avi, left click and

drag the left border of the clip

to the right

when the resize marker appears.

The left border snaps at the timeline cursor."

I think that may still be wrong, -- the instructions describe loading the first 2 clips into the V2 line and then loading the Billiard.avi clip into V1. The timeline cursor does not seem to attach to the V1 line when following these instructions

Mmh. I read your sentences more than twice.

What do you mean by “loading the Billard.avi into V1”? Do you mean: drag and drop Billard.avi from the project bin into the timeline?

What do you mean by “The timeline cursor does not seem to attach to the V1 line”? Do you mean: the playhaed doesn’t move to the clip automatically?

I attached a short screencast to show how it should work.
