SUMMARY
I downloaded the latest version of exiftool, renamed it but in the log I got hundreds of errors that is not available even if I updated if from the options

see images

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. dowload latest version of exiftool - unzip it in a folder - rename it to exiftool.exe
2. in digiKam - Confgiure Digikam - Metadata - Exiftool - Change - select the exe just renamed
3. open debugview - enable debug in digikam
3. add a folder to Collection or re read a collection

OBSERVED RESULT
1) exiftool version is not updated in the digiKam configuration dialog
2) errors report exiftool as non existing in the debug log

Use the ExifTool version that comes with digiKam; others are untested. You may be using a Windows ExifTool version from another vendor; I often read about problems like this in the ExifTool forum.

If we need the log excerpt from the start of ExifTool service.

Mike,
how can I to the log you need?
I get the exiftool from the original site, digiKam -> exiftool -> download

where do I find the "one it comes with digikam"?
under the folder I do see exiftool_files but is not an exe is a perl script
Comment 4 Maik Qualmann 2025-06-11 18:10:32 UTC
ExifTool is located in the root of the digiKam installation directory.

ok,
but should I use the exe or perl?
maybe that was the issue :)
Comment 6 caulier.gilles 2025-06-11 20:40:25 UTC
The exiftool.exe is a wrapper for the perl script. Uses the exe under Windows...

Sorry for late answer.
I've added the one from the digiKam installation and it appear to work.
The standard exec downloaded from the exiftool site does not work.

I'll test again
