Description blackteahamburger 2025-06-08 05:50:13 UTC
SUMMARY
Plasma cannot detect CD/DVDs when inserted i.e. an CD/DVD is not shown in Disks & Devices widget and Dolphin. But if it is inserted when the system boots/mount it manually/open k3b/other access to it such as dd, it is detected and shown. Sometimes two identical device is shown in Disks & Devices widget if it it is inserted when the system boots. Automount is enabled in system settings. Tested various CD/DVDs.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. *After* the system boots, insert a CD/DVD
2. It is not detected by plasma, but /dev/sr0 exists and no error message in dmesg
3. Mount it manually/open k3b/other access to it such as dd
4. Detected by Plasma

OBSERVED RESULT
As described above

EXPECTED RESULT
Whenever a CD/DVD is inserted, Plasma should detect it.

Comment 1 blackteahamburger 2025-06-08 09:28:40 UTC
Correction: Showing two identical devices does not require ”CD/DVD inserted when the system boots“ to occur.
Comment 2 John Kizer 2025-06-19 04:39:14 UTC
For what it's worth, I can't reproduce this issue on my Fedora KDE 42 device that has a DVD drive.
