Created attachment 182059 [details] Video Crashes when trying to open the save window. For example, in Cromium, Kate, etc. Almost everywhere there is such a dialogue. I click "Save" or "Save as" −> a window opens and as soon as I move the mouse −> everything crashes. For more information, see the video.
Please post a backtrace and all the information requested in the template
I have a strange situation that I have never encountered. I do everything according to the instructions. gdb kate (gdb) run Follow the steps that lead to a crash or error in the program. (gdb) set logging enabled on (gdb) thread apply all backtrace full But the file gdb.txt completely empty Operating System: Arch Linux KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.14.0 Qt Version: 6.9.1 Kernel Version: 6.14.9-arch1-1 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland Processors: 32 × AMD Ryzen 9 Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Created attachment 182060 [details] Video (In reply to Antonio Rojas from comment #1) > Please post a backtrace and all the information requested in the template I understand how you can repeat this for yourself, I have now tried to do it on 2 PCs and a laptop, and there is a 100% chance that a bug occurs. - Opening Kate - You can type any text - Click save - Enabling the thumbnail display on the side - When you hover the cursor over some formats, the window immediately closes. The video shows that this happens when I hover the mouse over a PDF file. Also on the rar archive and so on. Read more on the video
Cannot reproduce; perhaps something with the thumbnailer is killing it? Maybe Bug 490827. Can you try to localize the issue to a specific file or file type that triggers the issue when you hover over it?

The problem occurs with all formats that cannot be displayed on the right side of the "Show Thumbnail". And the problem arises in any program where there is such a dialog. For example, in Chromium there is no way to switch "Show thumbnail" at all. In it, this switch will be in the position in which it was set before. This happens both in the save dialog and in the open dialog.
Created attachment 182080 [details] Scr I do not know what this problem is related to, but it makes it very difficult to work (I mean the constant crashes of this "open" and "save" windows). Even when I open a PDF in Ocular, when I open the "Open" window, it immediately crashes if I hover the mouse over the PDF file and the preview window on the right is opened.
It definitely seems bad. We need a 100% reproducible test case though, and unfortunately I can't reproduce it at all.
Strangely, I have this problem reproduced on 2 PCs and on a laptop. Can you tell me what happens when you hover over the pdf or rar format? I have installed kio-extras, icoutils and ffmpegthumbs I use wayland and I have sddm running under wayland too. I used the following parameters. В /etc/sddm.conf.d/10-wayland.conf пишем: [General] DisplayServer=wayland GreeterEnvironment=QT_WAYLAND_SHELL_INTEGRATION=layer-shell [Wayland] CompositorCommand=kwin_wayland --drm --no-lockscreen --no-global-shortcuts --locale1

(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #9) > > Can you tell me what happens when you hover over the pdf or rar format? > > It shows a preview in the sidebar, as expected. https://pastebin.com/dvdZnJyL Here are the logs of what happens when the window crashes. Maybe I need to install some additional package?
Is Kate installed from Flathub rather than Arch repos? Do you somehow have asserts turned on? If the answer to both questions is "Yes", then this is Bug 490827. If either of the answers is "No", then I think we need to keep digging.
Next question: in the output of `coredumpctl --reverse` do you see crashes for "kioworker" or something similar?
Kate is installed from the official Arch Linux repositories. The fact is that this problem occurs not only in kate, but in absolutely any program where the same save/open dialog occurs. Are you sure you have the check mark that shows the preview on the right? If you remove it, everything works, but if you turn it on, it immediately crashes as soon as I hover the cursor over some formats. coredumpctl --reverse No coredumps found.
Can you test a patch and see if https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/kio/-/merge_requests/1910 fixes the issue for you?
(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #14) > Can you test a patch and see if > https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/kio/-/merge_requests/1910 fixes the issue > for you? Do I just need to install the git version? I don't quite understand how to apply patches that are on invent.kde.org . Can you tell me how I can do what you said?
Created attachment 182189 [details] PKGBUILD I have installed the patch that you recommended using PKGBUILD. I'm attaching it so that you can see if I did it right or not. Unfortunately, the problem remains.
