Description David de Cos 2025-05-29 09:30:43 UTC
SUMMARY

I have a large local mail collection, with hundreds of folders. Some of those folders have similar or identical names (e.g. some folders are named "2025", or "foo1", "foo2"). In order to navigate those folders, I rely heavily on pressing "J", "C" and "M", which invokes the Folder Selection Dialog. This has worked wonderfully up until before 6.4.0: if I pressed "J" (jump) and typed "2025", all the folders matching that text chain were shown, together with the full folder tree they belong to.

However, this has started working not so well in the last couple of months, probably after I installed 6.4.0. Now, most of the times, only one of the folders matching my query is fully shown. The other matches are found, but their folder trees remain closed. I have to click through the tree, folder by folder, to reach the one I was looking for.

(In case I didn't explain myself, I'll attach a capture in the next comment).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have two or more folders in different places of your mail collection, with the names of those folders being fully or partially identical (like "subfolder1", "subfolder2", etc).
2. Go to another location and click "J" to open the Folder Selection Dialog.
3. Type whatever chain text your folders have in common (for the example above, you can type "subf").

OBSERVED RESULT
Only one of the folders matching the name "subf" is shown. The others are found, but their tree is closed and you have to click through it in order to open it.

EXPECTED RESULT
All the folders matching "subf" should be shown, as they were in previous KMail versions.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20250522
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.14.0
Qt Version: 6.9.0
Kernel Version: 6.14.6-1-default (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
If you can't reproduce the bug, restart KMail, jump to another folder (e.g. your inbox) and try again. For some reason, sometimes if doesn't fail with folders you have jumped to previously.

In this video I press J and type "sub" to filter the folders shown in the Folder Selection Dialog. Only the folder "Local Folders -> Test 1 -> Folder 1 -> Subfolder 1" is properly shown. There is another match (Subfolder 2) in which the tree is closed, so I have to click through it to reach the desired folder.
