Description Jason Kwok 2025-05-27 14:32:38 UTC
SUMMARY

In the older versions of KDE Connect for Android, you're able to edit the device name with white-spaces, now I can't.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Navigate to Settings
2. Click "Device Name"
3. Type spaces to it, like "Jason Awesome Phone"

OBSERVED RESULT

Spaces was missing, i.e. "JasonAwesomePhone"

EXPECTED RESULT

The device name was set as expected, i.e. "Jason Awesome Phone"

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

Android Version: 15
KDE Connect Version: 1.33.4

I am having a similar issue, though different behaviour (on the same app version).

My default device name already had a white-space in it (‘Pixel 4a’), which, when left untouched, gets saved correctly. However, I am unable to enter any additional spaces into the text field: pressing the Space key or pasting a white-space character does nothing.

Device: Google Pixel 4a
Android version: 14 (PixelBuilds custom ROM)
KDE Connect version: 1.33.4
Keyboard: Gboard 15.5.8.766552071-beta-arm64-v8a

I tried this, but I am not able to reproduce this on my debug build. I am able to change the name in Pixel 7 Pro with white spaces, but on my Samsung with device name SM-**** it does not allow for white space characters. Once I am able to reproduce this I should be able to fix it.
