SUMMARY Kate recently got a new breadcrumb-style navigation in the filesystem browser, like Dolphin's. It's nice. Trouble is, I only ever want to use 'edit mode', and unlike Dolphin, Kate forgets that and puts me in breadcrumb mode every time it starts. This makes it difficult to select text from the path, which I do often. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Start Kate 2. Enable the filesystem browser plugin 3. Change to Edit mode (click the pencil icon next to the path) 4. Exit Kate 5. Start Kate OBSERVED RESULT Filesystem browser path reverts to 'breadcrumb mode' EXPECTED RESULT Filesystem browser path remains 'edit mode' SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: macOS: (available in the Info Center app, or by running `kinfo` in a terminal window) Operating System: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20250515 KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.14.0 Qt Version: 6.9.0 Kernel Version: 6.14.6-1-default (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland Processors: 24 × AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-Core Processor Memory: 31.3 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

(In reply to Christoph Cullmann from comment #1) > That is not persistent, if one wants that, patches are welcome. Thanks Christoph. Looking at https://community.kde.org/index.php?title=Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Bug_triaging#Set_the_Severity_field it seems like since this (selecting text from the path) 'worked in the past, but is now broken', this should be filed as a regression, rather than a wishlist. I noticed it when I tried to drag to select (which now does nothing - perhaps that could actually enter edit mode and start selecting?), and especially when I tried to doubleclick to select a single directory from the path, since that actually makes the path change, now (on the first click). The 'Back' button is there so it's not a huge problem, but still, it makes the new problem into two problems.
Hi Christoph, could you please fix this bug? It's been changed to wishlist but is a regression.
Hello, Christoph?
This is very low on my list. Unlikely I will work on that in the near future.
Fair enough, I guess it's even more relevant to file it correctly as a regression if we need someone else to pick it up?

That, is impressive. Very elegant. I tried a build with the patch, it works just like dolphin. Thank you both :)
