SUMMARY
I had MySQL database access configured correctly, but now it's not working. I uninstalled Digikam and reinstalled it, but the message remains the same.

What's your database settings exactly ? Can you share the [Database Settings] section from your digikamrc file available in your user directory ? See the online doc for details :

In addition to the configuration file, create a DebugView log from the start of digiKam, as described here for Windows:
