SUMMARY I have an installation of digikam that was functioning nicely for several months. My pictures library contains around 75K pictures in 4k folders. SQL Lite db. Yesterday evening I needed to use it (wanted to lookup a picture) however surprisingly digikam presented me with the Welcome to digikam 8.2.0 screen. I closed it and launched digikam again, just to be presented the same welcome again. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Random. I cannot reproduce this at will. I only know that yesterday I launched digikam that was already configured and working properly for several months and it is acting as it is the first time I run it, asking me for initial setup. OBSERVED RESULT Cannot use it as it is asking me to perform initial setup again EXPECTED RESULT It should honor the initial setup that I did several months ago, and keep working without making me lose effort or time or data SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: 11 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION SQL Lite. Please let me know how to solve this. I really don't want to setup again, I want to bring it back as it was before. Exactly same issue happened long time ago and with previous version hence I updated and was expecting the same issue to be gone however it happened again.
digiKam 8.2.0 is very old, update to the latest version (8.6.0). When the initial setup appears again, the digiKam configuration file "C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Lokal\digikamrc" is no longer present. Check your hard drive and disable the antivirus program for digiKam. I don't remember a similar problem being reported before. Maik

I am checking: Directory: C:\Users\mape1\AppData\Local Mode LastWriteTime Length Name ---- ------------- ------ ---- d----- 02-Nov-23 11:14 PM digikam -a---- 22-May-25 4:34 PM 0 digikamrc -a---- 22-May-25 4:34 PM 68 digikamrc.lock -a---- 18-Dec-23 1:43 PM 126 digikam_systemrc the file is there, however 0 bytes. I am comparing it with the last back up I made (late february) and digikamrc was 32kb size. I have no idea what truncated this file. I checked my Norton installation and there is no log mentioning targeting this file. Update: I just restored from my backup digikamrc and digikam_systemrc, and the Welcome screen was not presented. Instead the application opened nicely and I have access again to my library. Thanks a lot for the help!
Ok probably one RC config file was corrupted.
