Description Leonardo 2025-05-22 19:38:00 UTC
Hi!

I'm opening this report because i'm not sure if it's a bug or not. I'm using Fedora KDE 42 up-to-date on both my desktop and my laptop. On the EDID section of KInfocenter on my desktop, it shows me all the informations about my monitor connected to my GPU, so far so good.

On my laptop, an HP 255 G9, the section is empty, with a message saying that there is no data. Here the informations about my laptop:

Operating System: Fedora Linux 42
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.14.0
Qt Version: 6.9.0
Kernel Version: 6.14.6-300.fc42.x86_64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 12 × AMD Ryzen 5 5625U with Radeon Graphics
Memory: 14.9 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon Graphics
Manufacturer: HP
Product Name: HP 255 15.6 inch G9 Notebook PC
System Version: Type1ProductConfigId

I've gathered all the informations about my monitor with different tools via terminal:

If i try to dump and decode the EDID with "xrandr --verbose | edid-decode - dump.edid", the terminal gives me back "EDID length 6167 is not a multiple of 128.". Could it be a faulty EDID? So in this case, is it better to inform the user with a better message?

If you need more informations/dumps, i'll gladly post them here! Thanks for all the fantastic work on KDE!

Thanks for the bug report, and for providing the kscreen-doctor output.

Can you load the EDID page on your HP laptop (where it's empty), then run this and paste the output in a reply on this report?

sudo journalctl -S today | rg edid

Thanks!

Hi! Thanks for the answer! I've opened KInfocenter, selected EDID page, opened a terminal and copypasted your command but nothing happens, no output on the terminal. I've done the same thing on my desktop but still no output on the terminal. Is it the syntax correct?

Thanks for checking that. Yes, the syntax is correct. If there's no output, it means your system didn't record any edid errors in the logs after you viewed the EDID page. I'll let the more experienced kwin developers take it from here.

We're using a 3rd-party tool to get the EDIT information here; if your laptop doesn't show anything to the tool, it needs to be reported upstream at https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/emersion/libdisplay-info/-/issues.

It might even be a deeper issue, but hopefully the developers there can assist you further.

Thanks!
