SUMMARY
calibrating hdr max brightness does not change the visibility of the KDE icon. no matter how large or small the value is choose the icon looks the same. but if trying to take a screenshot, the image is always unreadable.
in the next step, the brightness does change if you change the parameters.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. enable hdr
2. start brightness calibration
3. try changing the values

OBSERVED RESULT
no brightness calibration

EXPECTED RESULT
brightness calibration

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
maybe the problem is in my monitor, it may not support hdr fully, I can't check that.

I understood. I was just indicating that HDR was indeed working, just that the calibration is not working as you indicated. Though in my case it does show an icon, just nothing changes by moving the slider.

Is this the same as https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=504347

While I can't speak for the first reporter on this, they both sound about the same. In my case the icon displays, but the slider doesn't make any change.

Out of curiosity, what kind of GPU are you using? The bug that David linked to was using a Nvidia gpu and mine is as well. Just wondering if it is related.

Also while mine does show the icon it disappears while trying to take a screenshot.
