Description Thomas Berger 2025-05-11 16:26:01 UTC
In Krita 5.2.9 under Windows (tested at 7680ร—2160 resolution with 125% scaling), the UI element for adjusting the transparency background (checkerboard) of the canvas is entirely missing:

- No icon or toggle in the bottom status bar
- No menu entry or option to configure transparency background
- No settings entry under Display or Canvas settings
- A full config reset (incl. kritarc) and the portable version do not restore it

This makes it difficult to preview soft shadows or transparency blending without manually adding a white background layer. The issue seems UI-related, possibly DPI- or resolution-dependent.

Feature request:
- Restore the transparency background configuration (checkerboard size/color)
- Or add a fallback menu item if the status bar element is not rendered

Kind regards,
Thomas

Hello Thomas, sorry that it's taken a long time to get back to you. Is this still an issue for you?

I'm not entirely sure if this is a feature that existed in previous version of Krita (that I have never seen), or if this is a new feature you're requesting.

The settings window was changed somewhere around version 5.2, and it moved the settings of the transparency checkerboard to Configure Krita -> Display -> Canvas Decorations -> Transparency Checkerboard.

Alternatively, in the top menu under "Image" there's the option "Image Background Color and Transparency...", which is also available to add to one of the toolbar under Settings -> Configure Toolbars...

If none of this helps you and/or I've misunderstood you, please report back and maybe provide a screenshot of what is and isn't showing up as it should?
